Key Reminders:

  • Requirement: All tax preparers who file federal returns for compensation must have a valid PTIN. Failure to comply may lead to penalties.
  • Fee: The renewal or application fee is $19.75.
  • Expiration: Current PTINs expire on December 31, 2024, so renewal is required for the 2025 season.
  • Individual PTINs: Each tax preparer must have their own PTIN; it cannot be shared between individuals or offices.
